Vision:
In
December 2005 thirteen Christians
embarked on a new beginning. Their
vision was to provide a doctrinally
sound congregation of the Lord in
Fairfield Glade for all who would join
them in a common bond. They met
temporarily at the Fairfield Glade
Community Center, the U. S. A. Realty
Company, and the Cumberland Eye
Center. Their commitment was strong,
the group cohesive, and they worked
diligently.
Mission:
The
mission of the church is to serve the
Lord as directed in God’s word – to
evangelize, to edify, and to practice
benevolence, first to the brethren and
then to others as opportunity affords.
Moving
Ahead:
With
strengthened resolve to find a more
permanent meeting place and to appoint
elders as soon as possible, the group
was able to negotiate a lease on the
“old” Art Guild building at 128
Wilshire Heights Drive and began
meeting there on January 1, 2007.
They began renovations and
redecorating immediately. Donations
of materials and time from many
generous people and churches helped to
provide them with a suitable place for
worship and fellowship.
The
church’s minister, Pat Cowden,
preached a series of lessons on the
eldership which included the
qualifications and responsibilities of
elders as well as the role and
responsibilities of the congregation.
Brothers Joe Pruett and Buford Street
were appointed elders in February,
2008 after being approved by the
congregation.
When
Brother Cowden left to pursue his
missionary work, the church was
fortunate to have men within the
congregation to carry on that
important work: Brothers Joe Pruett
and Scott Cain began serving as
interim ministers. When Brother Cain
left to enter Memphis School of
Preaching, Brother Joe Pruett
continued as the minister and will do
so until the church is in a position
to hire a full-time minister.
The
congregation’s mission remains strong
and they are reaching out with
activities and projects – see other
sections on this website. The
long-term goal is to outgrow the
current building and eventually to
have their own building in Fairfield
Glade large enough to accommodate the
anticipated growth. A building fund
has been established to which
contributions are made on a regular
basis. The congregation has gown, and
it is a pleasure to serve the needs of
residents of Fairfield Glade as well
as the steady stream of visitors to
the area.
